Building a checkpoint list you will actually use
Checkpoint lists fail when they resemble compliance forms. If filling the list takes longer than reading the chart, you will skip fields under pressure. Datapathbase coaching clients start with five lines — no more until those are habitual.
Field 1 — Liquidity event
Write where obvious stops likely sat and whether price swept that area in the current session. “Equal highs at 4520” is useful; “liquidity taken” without a level is not.
Field 2 — Structural shift
State BOS or CHoCH, the timeframe, and the exact swing level broken. Include whether displacement met your minimum body-size rule.
Field 3 — Entry zone
Define the price area where you will act — order block, fair value gap, or retest of broken structure. If the zone is wider than your normal stop allows, the trade is a pass.
Field 4 — Invalidation
One level that kills the thesis if touched after entry. Coaching clients must write this before entry, not after price moves against them.
Field 5 — Session context
Note the session (Asia, London, New York) and whether macro news sits inside your planned hold window. This field prevents holding through binary events without awareness.
Why shorter wins
We removed “indicator confirmation” fields because traders treated them as optional extras. Structure-first means structure-first — overlays come after the five fields are complete.
